We didn’t bribe anyone in Tamale before installing new prepaid meters- NEDCo

The Management of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (NEDCo), has denied the assertion of bribing assembly members and opinion leaders to lead the installation of the new prepaid meters within the Greater Tamale.

Some residents of the Greater Tamale have been accusing the assembly members of taking bribes and led the installation of the new prepaid meters at the various communities within the metropolis. Because of these assertions, some residents who are currently battling with these new meters have vowed to vote against their incumbent assembly members for their alleged involvement in the installation of the meters.

But in a statement copied to diamondfmonline.com, and signed by the Manager of Corporate Communications of (NEDCo) Mr. Maxwel K. Kotoka disputed the allegations saying, “NEDCo wishes to categorically and emphatically deny these allegations as they are spurious, unfounded and wicked”.

He further explained that, “for the avoidance of doubts, it must be stressed that NEDCo does not need to (and will not) bribe or inappropriately influence any Assembly Member, Opinion Leader or any other person for that matter, to be able to go about her legitimate mandate or duties; this mandate includes the upgrading of lines, injection of transformers and the deployment of meters. Obviously, just as NEDCo does not have to bribe anybody to upgrade lines or inject transformers, so does it not need to bribe anyone to deploy meters”.

PRESS RELEASE

FALSE ALLEGATIONS OF NEDCo BRIBING ASSEMBLY MEMBERS AND OPINION LEADERS

The Management of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (NEDCo) has observed with grave concern, some allegations in circulation that NEDCo bribed some Honourable Assembly Members and Opinion Leaders in order to be able to deploy the Mienergy/Longi meters in the various communities.

NEDCo wishes to categorically and emphatically deny these allegations as they are spurious, unfounded and wicked. For the avoidance of doubts, it must be stressed that NEDCo does not need to (and will not) bribe or inappropriately influence any Assembly Member, Opinion Leader or any other person for that matter, to be able to go about her legitimate mandate or duties; this mandate includes the upgrading of lines, injection of transformers and the deployment of meters. Obviously, just as NEDCo does not have to bribe anybody to upgrade lines or inject transformers, so does it not need to bribe anyone to deploy meters!

Actually, these Assembly Members and Opinion Leaders serve as a liaison between NEDCo and her cherished customers. Just as they lead the various communities in communicating their communal challenges concerning electricity supply to NEDCo, so does NEDCo treat them as community leaders through whom some communal engagements are held and/or arranged. This is not and cannot be fairly described as bribery. These allegations are therefore unfair to both NEDCo and the Honourable Assembly Members and Opinion Leaders so they must cease forthwith!

We wish to further state that henceforth, we would not hesitate to hold anyone who makes any of these spurious allegations concerning NEDCo to strict proof; Please, treat this as the final caution. Thank you.END!
