Vodafone Ghana Foundation extends free ultrasound scan services to about 250 pregnant women in Tamale

Vodafone Ghana Foundation, the philanthropic arm of leading Telecom operator, Vodafone Ghana has extended health care services to some pregnant women in the Tamale Metropolis.

Senior Management Team from Vodafone Ghana toured the Northern Region and as part of their trip, reached out to some 250 pregnant women who received free ultrasound scan services for free at the Tamale Central Hospital’s Reproductive and Child Health Facility at Changli, Tamale.

The Director, Legal and External Affairs at Vodafone Ghana, Geta Stiggner Quartey said Vodafone was deeply interested in health and digital education particularly for those in underserved communities.

“Dubbed rural ultrasound scan initiative, this is meant to be a life-changing health initiative which has been implemented since 2016 and has continuously provided free ultrasound scans with an team of medical professionals, benefiting over 20,000 women so far.”

Ms. Quartey said Vodafone Foundation has in its 13 years remained relentless in implementing the most altruistic initiatives thought out the country.

“Under our health portfolio, we have our homecoming programme, which pays the bills of insolvent patients and reunites families across the country, the healthfest initiative, which provides free medical screening via our medical team and the healthline medical call centre, which provides accurate medical information on covid-19 and other medical complications to the public for free by dialing 255,” she stated.

Madam Genevieve Jampitey, the in-charge at the pregnant women unit at the health facility, commended Vodafone for the service since the facility had no CT scan equipment thereby compelling clients who are pregnant to go to some other places for such services with attendant risk and costs.

While hoping that benefactors will respond to their need of having an ultrasound scan equipment, madam Jampitey said the scanning and screening by Vodafone should become a regular feature that will benefit other pregnant women who patronize the facility.

An expectant mother, Iddrisu Uzemah was so appreciative of the gesture by Vodafone towards ensuring that their unborn babies and as well as mothers were safe and sound.
