The Deputy Majority Chief Whip of Parliament Alhaji Habib, has reaffirmed the earlier statement made by the Yendi legislature Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama, that all the nine (9) New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs in the Northern Region have endorsed the current NPP Northern Regional Chairman.
According to him, “if the member of parliament for Yendi constituency Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama have said so then it is true, all what he said is true”.
Alhaji Habib Iddrisu made these remarks during a recent interview on Diamond FM Power Drive on Thursday 27th January, 2022.
He indicated that, all the nine (9) NPP MPs in the Northern Region took the decision to declare their support to current NPP Northern Regional Chairman based on his performance on the last general elections in the region.
Alhaji Habib, doubled as MP for Tolon Constituency, said the NPP during the last general elections had appreciated about 100,000 votes in the Northern Region through the efforts of Chairman Samba’s leadership in the region.
“Northern Region in terms of presidential votes were able to appreciate over 100,000 votes more as compared to whatever we had in 2016. We had nine seats. we were able to maintain the nine seats, while the rest of the ten regions have lost seats. It’s only Northern Region, we were able to maintain our nine seats and it is something that need to be recommended”, he said.
The Tolon legislature, during the conversations also disagree with the assertion that, they maintained the nine seats in the region because of individuals’ efforts, saying “environment need to be created for a peaceful coexistence and for you to execute your agender. If the environment or atmosphere is not conducive for you to be able to do whatever you have to do, you cannot be able to excel. At the end of the day if we don’t have Regional Executives who were robots who could guide us, who could be able to allow things happen, I don’t think we could have maintained these seats”, he added.
The Tolon legislature was speaking on a wide range of issues including the controversial E-levy, happenings in Parliament in the year 2021 and many others.
It would be recalled that, on 4th January, 2022, the member of parliament for Yendi Constituency on the same platform revealed that, all the nine (9) New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs in the Northern Region have endorsed the current NPP Northern Regional Chairman, Mohammed Baantimah Samba to continue his chairmanship in the Region.
The Yendi law maker while interacting with Mohammed Ibn Abdallah, said “if you look at Chairman Samba, he has done wonderful and great things, although the NPP had 9 seats and NDC also had 9 seats, but given him opportunity he can increase our seats with a greater number”.
