SEASON FIXTURES FOR DIVISION ONE LEAGUE ANNOUNCED

Season fixtures for this year’s division one league were released on Wednesday by the Division One League board and communicated to all teams in this division via the Ghana Football Association’s website.

A statement in the preamble to the said release had among others the following:

“The GFA and the Division One League Board have announced fixtures for the 2017/18 GFA Division One League which is scheduled to kick off on the weekend of February 10th-12th, 2018.”

The worrying thing about the fixtures was that it did not have anything about venues for the matches to be played for each team.

This has caused some outrage among followers of the division one league as they see that as unnecessary since teams cannot plan their journeys without the said venues.

Many believe it should have been left until the time the venues will be available for publication.

The release on the FA’s website did try to explain the reason why the match venues have not been provided. The statement in full, reads:

“Please note that full fixtures with venues will be announced immediately the Licensing Board completes its inspection.”

The season fixtures itself sees two of the four Northern Region teams starting the season at home whilst the other two have to travel out on the opening day of the season.

Real Tamale United (RTU) begin the season with a home tie against Kintampo FC at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale. Steadfast FC also starts the season at home against Glory Stars FC. Rebranded Tamale City FC travel to near qualifiers last season, NEA Salamina whilst newly promoted Gbewaa FC have to start the season on the road as they travel to play against former premier league side, Bofoakwa Tano FC.

The fixtures as indicated above were without venues and that will be communicated after the club lincensing board’s inspection ends later.
