The Northern Region won bronze at this year’s National Armwrestling Championships held last Friday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Rashida Abass took home the bronze medal after placing third in the Women’s Heavyweight category at a grueling event in Accra that drew lovers of armwrestling from all over the country to the venue with the aim of picking the best for the African Armwrestling Championships later in the year. Florence Mensah was first with the gold medal while Afia Kumah placed second and took the silver medal.
The Northern Region had a contingent of four people led by the representative of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation in the Northern Region Mr. Wisdom Abomega.
The other participants from the Northern Region however couldn’t get a medal but Rashida Abass overcame the odds to secure a bronze medal finish which qualifies her for another Armwrestling event in Lagos, Nigeria next month and the African Games in Ghana next year.
The other Northern Regional participants also did well but couldn’t make it to the finals of their respective categories due to inexperience.
In the men’s heavyweight contest, Derrick Kwakye emerged first with the gold medal, Fawzi Saoud came second with the silver medal and Isaac Antwi-Boasiako emerged third with the bronze medal.
