NDC: Tamale Central MP Ibrahim Mohammed Murtala urge students writing this year’s BECE Exams serious

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale Central Constituency Honorable Ibrahim Mohammed Murtala, has admonished candidates writing this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) within his constituency to focus on the examination with all seriousness.

He also encouraged the students to study extra hard to enable them earn a high grade at the end of the exams, adding that the students could only pass if they do away with social media and other activities that disrupt their studies.

The MP made the call over the weekend when he met and interacted with the candidates at the ongoing free extra classes he organized for this year’s BECE candidates in his constituency.

According to him, the poor performance of BECE candidates of his constituency is the reason why he initiated the free extra classes for three decades now in the constituency. He said the introduction of the free extra classes of the constituency, has increased the average pass mark of BECE results from 32.3% to 50.9%.

Honorable Ibrahim Murtala who was optimistic about the candidates passing the exams, stated that, “I got information that, some of them are on Tik Tok, Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram among others. My advice to them is that, they should avoid those things for now. They are left with only two weeks to write the exams. When you write your exams, and then you pass your exams, you can go in to those things. Nobody will be so much concern, but they need to take their studies seriously. We shall be providing mathematical set and transportation money to them and the number is over 2,000 now, and Insha Allah, we shall do it”.

“And it is my prayer and hope that, at least this year’s results should be better than last year. If we move from 32.3% to 50.9% to almost 62%, it is my prayer and hope that we move to 80% this year, and that will give me satisfaction”.

“For me that is the only way we can build the capacity of the people of Tamale Central and the entire Northern Ghana”, he added.

The Tamale Central MP while encouraging the students to take their studies seriously, also called on parents to be more concern about their children’s education most especially the BECE candidates and avoid engaging them with more household chores.

Mr. Ibrahim Mutala in an interaction with the media also revealed that his outfit has so far offered a sponsorship package to 20 medical students within his constituency. He expressed his commitment towards continuing to support students who are willing to pursue Medicine at the university level.
