N/R: IGP Dampare praises Chief of Lamashegu for saving the life of a Police Officer

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare has praise the Chief of Lamashegu Naa Ziblim Abdulai, for his role towards saving the life of a police officer and also calming the tension in the area following the clash between some youth and the police.

The IGP raid these praises when the Northern Regional Minister Alhaji Alhassan Sayibu Shani, and the Mayor of Tamale Sule Salifu, led a powerful delegation from Accra to his palace on Wednesday 16 February, 2022.

Director General, Administration of the Ghana Police Service, Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno, who raid the praises on behalf of the IGP, said the intervention by the chief saved the police man from been lynched by the irate youth, hence the need to commend him for his intervention.

“Had it not been the chief palace that the police man run to, the anger youth would have lynched him, and so for that matter the whole police administration headed by the IGP, were so happy, and we have appreciated the good work of the chief. In fact, through this I got to know that, it is a tradition, that what ever happen the chief palace is like an embassy. And then, when somebody runs there, nobody can come there to attack the other”, he said.

“And for the chief having good heart, even though the police man misconducted himself, the chief has the good heart to receive our police man. We the police officers, headed by the IGP thank the chief and all his subjects, who were here to help and rescue the situation”, he added.

The Commissioner of Police while expressing praises at the chief, also on behalf of the inspector general of police, render unqualified apology to the Chief of Lamashegu, over the conduct of the police officers on Sunday 13 February, 2022.

He also apologize to the chief over the provocative comments made by one of their officers on Facebook.

“Even though the IGP himself called to apologize strongly for what the police man did, he said no, he still has to send a delegation to come and kneel before you and still apologize, and also to help to talk to the youth most especially the affected people”, he said.

COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, in his remarks said the police administration is taken serious action against police men whose action is intended to ridicule the image of the police service.

Meanwhile, COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno also explained that, all the police men were involved during the clash has been interdicted, and the one who did the shooting together with the one who also posted these unfortunate incidents on social media.

The IGP instructed that, they should all be send to court, and so they were send to court today. So, this shows the police administration will never allow any police officer to do something that will drug the image of the police service into disrepute”, he stated.

The Commissioner of Police, also commended the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Alhassan Sayibu Shani, Mayor of Tamale Sule Salifu and Regional Coordinating Director Alhaji Alhassan Issahak, for their efforts towards ensuring law and order in the region.
