N/R: Confusion rocks NPP in the Northern Region over sale of nomination forms for polling station elections

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has recorded series of confusion over the sale of nomination forms for the upcoming polling station elections in the Northern Region.

The exercise which commenced with the sale of nomination forms, on Saturday February 19, 2022 has recorded pockets of disturbances in some of the constituencies in the region.

Many party members accused constituency executives of giving preferential treatment to their colleagues in the distribution of the forms for the polling station elections.

Yendi, Nanton, and Tolon recorded some of the disturbances following the allege hoarding of nomination forms.

Some aggrieved supporters of the NPP of the above mentioned constituencies over the weekend, expressed their grievances over the absence of the nomination forms at their various constituencies.

They also protested against the alleged decision by the incumbent MPs and executives of the constituencies to hoard the nomination forms.

The Member of Parliament for Yendi, Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama, was accused of hoarding the nomination forms and also changing the meeting dates for the forms distribution by the constituency chairman, Alhaji Saddick, which the MP has since denied.

However, some angry NPP youth of the Nanton constituency, also take arms against the MP for Nanton Alhaji Hardi Tuferu, for allegedly conspiring with the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nanton Abdulai Murtala to hoard the nomination forms.

At Tolon, diamondfmonline.com gathered that, the situation was brought to control on Monday February 21, 2022 as the nomination forms were made available for aspirants.

Per the NPP guidelines, the polling station elections would be held from February 19 to March 5 in more than 38,000 polling stations.

The sale of forms which was supposed to end on Monday was extended to Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the leadership of the party has stated that it has deployed adequate forms to facilitate a smooth rollout of its ongoing polling station elections across the country.

The party at a press conference explained that, it has directed election management committee at the various polling stations to immediately notify the party’s leadership in an event where they run out of forms to avert chaos in the electoral process.
