Lifting Lockdown is premature, Security Analyst to Government.

Security and International Relations analyst, Adib Saani has described as premature the decision by the President to lift the lockdown and very likely to defeat the purpose for which it was declared in March.

He said the decision to lift the restriction of movement in the Greater Accra and Greater Kumasi after three weeks betrays the President’s words concerning the fight against the novel coronavirus.

President Nana Akufo Addo in a televised address on Sunday April 19, lifted the partial lockdown of Accra, Kasoa, Tema, and Greater Kumasi which was imposed to curtail the spread of the Corona Virus.

But speaking to Diamond news in an interview, Adib Saani said “it is imperative for the government to swallow the bitter pill by extending the lockdown until the country is able to deal with the spread of the virus decisively”.

He said the President was caught in a balance, which he decided to prioritize the economy over the health of the country.

Adib Saani who is also the Executive director for the Jatikay Center for Human Security and Peace Building said the Corona Virus pandemic poses a critical human security threat across the world and urged world leaders to take decisive decisions in dealing with the pandemic.

He urged the public to however follow religiously the precautionary protocols put out by the Health Ministry and the World Health Organization to help contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
