The Member of Parliament (MP) for Karaga Constituency Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam Anta over the weekend broke the ground for the construction of an ultra-modern workshop block at the new Nyong Technical Institute in the Karaga District.
The multipurpose workshop block will have five departments which will all be fully equipped as part of the project – Catering, Carpentry, Tailoring, Electricals and Welding departments. A separate administration block is also being built for the administrative work.
The contractor has since moved to the site hoping to deliver the project, situated on about 100-acre land at Nyong community, on schedule time.
The construction of the workshop block facility is being executed through the office of the MP with funding support from Tullow Ghana.
In his short remarks at the ground breaking ceremony, Dr. Amin Anta who is also a Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, thanked Tullow Ghana for the gesture. “The chiefs and people of the Karaga constituency are grateful for this empowering project”, he added.
He said his outfit through the support from the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) last year completed a 6-unit classroom block for the institute, while a dormitory block is also under construction through GETFUND.
Dr. Amin Anta, said the Nyong Technical Institute would be ready to admit the first batch of students next year.
“With the addition of the workshop block when completed, we are ready to commission the first Technical Institute in the Karaga Constituency next year and to admit the first batch of students,” he assured.
He further explained that, “the Institute will serve my constituency and beyond through skills training to prepare the youth for gainful employment and for the transformation of our country”.
He thus encourage the youth in his constituency to take advantage of the vocational training to better their future.
The Karaga legislator as part of his efforts towards uplifting the standard of education in his constituency has within two years in office initiated and completed a series of developmental projects under the educational sector. It includes the construction of Pishigu SHS, construction of Nyong Technical Institute, the provision of financial support to needy students, the distribution of laptops to all teachers in his constituency among others.
