The Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority Prof. Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah has urged Ghanaians to desist from aiding foreigners to register for the Ghana Card.

He indicated that, the Ghana Card is a national identity card being issued by the National Identification Authority, to only qualified Ghanaian citizens and therefore urged the public to police the process.

According to him, it is an offence to vouch for persons who are not citizens of Ghana cautioned further that anyone found guilty would face the law.

Speaking at a media briefing in Tamale ahead of start of registration in the Northern, Savannah and North-East regions on Friday 0ctober 4, 2019, Prof Attafuah indicated that one can vouch for any number of persons you so wish, but that must be done honestly and with integrity.

He also admonished the public to pay attention to details provided at the registration center to avoid wrong spellings, order of names and other vital details that will be provided.

The Executive Secretary of the NIA also urged the public to disregard the notion that the Ghana Card is an identity card.

He said purposes of the card will include citizenship recognition and determination, data integration, harmonization of identification systems as well as data storage and exchange systems for all Ghanaians living in Ghana or abroad.

The National Identification Authority will form Friday October 4, 2019 mount registration centers across 31 MMDAs in the Northern, Savannah and North-East regions to commence registering Ghanaian citizens living within those areas.

One must generate the Ghana Post (GPS) addresses; have a genuine birth certificate, valid Ghanaian passport before going to the centers to aide in their registration process.
