Alan Supporters in Northern Region Disown Him, set to campaign for Dr Mahamadu Bawumia

Supporters of Alan Kojo Kyeremanten of the greater Tamale in the Northern Region have abandoned the latter who resigned from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to contest the upcoming 2024 general elections as an independent candidate.

The die hard supporters of Mr. Kyeremanten in the Northern Region, expressed their disappointment over his departure from the ruling NPP, assuring their commitment to the NPP.

“We can only describe his action as “cowardly” and a betrayal of his loyal supporters”, they stated.

Addressing the media in Tamale on Tuesday September 26, 2023, convener of the group, Mr. Chabile Moses Moye, indicated that, “during our campaigns, we vigorously defended Alan’s loyalty to the party, dismissing claims that he would resign if he didn’t win. We now find ourselves faced with the stark reality of his resignation. Is this the man we remained loyal to for the sake of the NPP?”, they quizzed.

He said supporters of Alan Kyeremanten in the Northern Region were shocked after hearing his resignation from the NPP on Monday, September 25, 2023.

Mr. Chabile Moses Moye however explained further that, “We want to emphasize that we stand firmly with our party and will work tirelessly to unite our members within the NPP. We are the NPP, and we are committed to breaking the eight-year cycle in 2024″, he assured.

PRESS STATEMENT BY FORMER SUPPORTERS OF ALAN KYEREMANTEN IN THE NORTHERN REGION

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen of the media. We appreciate your prompt response to our invitation on such short notice.

We, as concerned former supporters of Alan John Kojo Kyeremanten’s presidential candidacy within the NPP, are here today to express our profound disappointment in Mr. Kyeremanten for what we consider a significant betrayal.

First and foremost, we are individuals who have steadfastly believed in Alan’s leadership within our party for an extended period—17 years, to be exact. We have diligently worked alongside him, supporting his campaigns and believing in his potential to lead the NPP, especially in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

However, Alan chose to withdraw from the race abruptly, without prior notice, citing isolated incidents of violence in some regions of the country after our special delegate conference. This decision inflicted unnecessary hardship on us because we firmly believed that the grassroots were firmly behind him.

We were shocked and dismayed when he abruptly withdrew from the November 4 presidential election, especially considering that he was among the five candidates selected. We questioned why he had to abandon us in the midst of this crucial battle.

Ladies and gentlemen of the media, we can only describe this action as “cowardly” and a betrayal of his loyal supporters. The New Patriotic Party is a democratic organization, and we all have the right to support any candidate of our choice during our internal elections.

Our support for Alan was rooted in his NPP membership, as we believed he was one of the party’s foundational members who could uphold its principles and traditions. However, we were shocked to learn of his resignation from the NPP yesterday.

It is worth noting that during our campaigns, we vigorously defended Alan’s loyalty to the party, dismissing claims that he would resign if he didn’t win. We now find ourselves faced with the stark reality of his resignation. Is this the man we remained loyal to for the sake of the NPP?

Ladies and gentlemen of the media, we want to make it clear that our support for Alan was contingent on his NPP affiliation. We will not betray our party for any individual, not even the President of the Republic. If we identify issues within our party, we believe in staying, working together to resolve differences, and moving forward in unity.

Alan recently suggested that certain policies and decisions were mishandled, and he would seek to review them if elected. We remind him that he was part of the cabinet as a minister when those decisions were made. He cannot now attempt to mislead us simply because he wishes to pursue an independent path. We cannot allow one individual to undermine our party and jeopardize our chances of achieving victory in 2024.

We want to emphasize that we stand firmly with our party and will work tirelessly to unite our members within the NPP.

We are the NPP, and we are committed to breaking the eight-year cycle in 2024.

………Signed……..

Chabile Moses Moye
