DVLA sensitizes motorist on safety measures in Tamale

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority in conjunction with the Police Motor traffic and transport department (MTTD), has embarked on a public education exercise on some streets of Tamale, to sensitize motorist on the need to obey basic traffic regulations.

According to the personnel of the DVLA, the exercise is aimed at improving safety and complements the works of the road safety commission to ensure a reduction in road crashes and deaths.

The joint team checked drivers and vehicular documents pertaining to the renewals road worthy certificates and licenses among others and is expected to rake in some revenue to the government.

Some passengers on overloaded commercial tricycles (yellow-yellow) were dropped off and, operators of vehicles with expired road worthy certificates were made to pay spot fine for its renewal.

An Assistant Manager in charge of operations at the DVLA offices in Tamale, Thomas Zume, spoke to Diamond news on the exercise.

Commenting on unregistered motorbikes in the region, Thomas Zume said it was illegal for people to acquire motorbikes without licenses and other ownership documents.
He however stated, that efforts will be made to encourage motorist to register their motorbikes.
