whip up interest of people to rely much more on solar-energy through advocacy

A lecturer at the Mechanical Engineering Department at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Benson Ahunu, has called for more advocacies to whip up the interest of people to rely much more on solar-energy.

According to the energy expert, solar provided an efficient form of energy conservation and also cost effective source of power, hence people should consider solar as an alternative to hydro-power.

Despite Ghana’s large solar potential some 29% of the population is still not connected to the national grid. Speaking to Diamond news, Benson Ahunu stated that solar energy capacity make up a little over 0.03% and this are mostly found in private homes, but this has to be upscale.

An energy consultant, Baba Iddrisu with best solar solution, also stated that the time had come for the government to consider offering more subsidies on solar products in order to improve its coverage to mostly rural communities, as was done in the past.
