An Accra Circuit Court has remanded Lance Corporal Godzi Frederick Amanor, the policeman who assaulted 36-year-old Patience Osafo, whilst she was carrying a baby at Midland Savings and Loans, Shaishie branch in Accra, on Friday July 20.
Lance Corporal Amanor, popularly known among his colleagues as Skalla, and stationed at the Accra Regional Police Operations Unit, was charged for assault contrary to section 84 of the Criminal Offences Act (ACT29) of 1960.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge of assault in the Dangme dialect and will re-appear on August 9.
Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) George Amegah, told the Circuit Court presided by Mrs. Harriet Jane Akwele Quaye that the complainant, Patience Osafo was a petty trader resident at Shaishie, Accra and customer of Midland Savings and Loans Limited.
He said on July 19, the complainant who has suffered frustration with the bank, after several attempts to cash her deposits have failed, was prevented by the Bank officials, namely Kukuaa and Shelly who called the accused L/CPL Amanor to sack her out of the banking hall.
The policeman in an attempt to move the complainant out from the banking hall assaulted her and subsequently dragged her out of the banking hall with her grand-baby.
On July 20, following the directives of the IGP in respect of the assault on social media, the accused person was arrested.
He admitted the offence in his caution statement. After investigations, he was charged accordingly and put before the Court.
