Two young men have been attacked by residents of walejane in Tamale for allegedly stealing a tricycle popularly known as yellow-yellow at walejane, near Tamale Polytechnic in the Northern Region.
The victims Idrusu Mohammed , 18 and Yussif ,24 were rushed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital due to the severe injuries and are in critical condition.
Diamond News gathered that the victims were chased by a mob and in the process they were inflicted with multiple wounds on their bodies.
Northern Regional Police P.R.O DSP Mohammed Yussif Tanko who confirmed the incident said when police arrived at , residents were met at the scene, but the alleged thieves were not met. However police were informed that the victims had been taken to Tamale Teaching Hospital for treatment.
He indicated that investigation at the scene revealed that even though the two young men were not thieves, they were perceived as such and therefore attacked by the mob.
The tricycle which was allegedly stolen was found parked at the scene.
Meanwhile the tricycle was brought to the station.
DSP Tanko said the police is investigating the case to have the perpetrators arrested and prosecuted and appealed to anybody with any information that can assist in investigations to volunteer same.
Meanwhile , the police have warned residents against taking the law into their hands.
