Torrential rains flood Tolon and communities

Parts of the Tolon Township and surrounding communities have been flooded a downpour that has lasted almost a week in the Northern Region.

The rains did not only prevent market women and other traders from displaying their wares, but also held them back from attending to other social activities.

Several mud houses in Tolon and communities nearby were pulled down by the heavy downpour. The communities include Naayili Fong, Sabegu and fiihini, among others.

The main stretch linking the District capital Tolon to farming communities such as Tali, and Wantugu, were badly affected by the downpour.

The District Chief Executive for Tolon, Madam Barikisu Yakubu has visited the affected communities with the District NADMO officials and the District engineer to ascertain the levels of damage by the floods.

Speaking to Diamond News via phone, Madam Barikisu Yakubu expressed worry about the incident, saying the assembly is constrained with resources to support the victims.

The Tolon DCE is thereby appealing to benevolent organizations to come to the aid of the assembly to enable them support the victims.
