President Nana Akuffo Addo has directed the Inspector General of Police, David Asante-Apietu to proceed on leave, with immediate effect.

This is pending his retirement from the police service on Wednesday August 14th, 2019.

In his stead, the president has asked the deputy Inspector General of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh to act until a substantive IGP is appointed in accordance with the constitution.

A statement signed by Eugene Arhin, Director of Communication at the Presidency said President Akuffo Addo has thanked Mr. Apeitu Asante for his many year of service to the country and wished him well in his retirement.

The immediate past IGP and his deputy, Mr. Oppong-Boanuh are retirees and were on contract.

Mr. Asante-Apeitu’s departure from the police service happens on a day he and his CID boss, Maame Tiwaa Addo-Danquah again for the third time, failed to appear in persons before a judge in a contempt case in the Gregory Afoko alleged murder case.
