Local Government Minister has an “Ethnic” agenda against us-Kokombas in Yunyoo areas, asserts

Konkombas in the Yunyoo Constituency of the Northern Region, including chiefs have criticized the minister of local government and rural development, Hajia Alimah Mahama for pushing an ethnic agenda to deny them the administrative capital of the Yet to be created Yunyoo district.

According to president of the Konkomba Youth Association (Gbintriri Chapter), Konkombas constitute about 77% of total voter population in the area, against a moderate Bimoba and scanty Mamprusi population, hence the need for a Konkomba area to be made capital.

They argued that, of all dominant tribes in Mamprugu land, only Konkombas was without a district and the decision by Hajia Alimah, a Mamprusi, to make Yunyoo with a Mamprusi population of about a 1000 people, the district capital was unfair and undemocratic.

Emmanuel Gulari disclosed this to Diamond news, after a release was to the media in Tamale.

The Yunyoo district is to be carved out of the existing Bunkprugu/Yunyoo district in line with government’s intention to create additional districts nationwide.

Even before the Electoral Commission commenced its work, have been incidence of violence, with the latest being the killing of four traders at Nanjong No by unknown assailants.

Ali Christopher, national treasurer of the Kokomba Youth Association, also noted that series of petitions and engagements with the presidents and other relevant stakeholders to that effect had not yielded the desired results.
