Fire Service decries the lack of functional water hydrants to fighting urgent fires in the Tamale area

The Ghana National Fire Service in the Northern region has bemoaned the existing challenge of inadequate water hydrants within the Tamale Metropolis to effectively fight fires whenever the need arises.

According to the fire service, the inability of the Ghana water company to supply water to the over 20 water hydrants scattered across the metropolis due to their water rationalization policy is a hindering their job.

In an interview with Diamond News, Public Relations Officer of the Fire Service, Adam Iddris Gbanzaba stated that, fire fighters are usually ineffective at fire scenes when they run out of water and have to travel longer distance for water whiles the fire continue to cause havoc.

He lamented that fire engines usually travel to the UDS graduate school to refill their tanks during emergencies.

Meanwhile The Ghana National Fire Service is urging the public to acquire at least one fire extinguisher and other firefighting gargets to safe guide their properties against any eventualities.

Adam Iddrisu Gbanzaba also urged the public to quickly place a call to the National Fire service to ensure safe firefighting and rescue services.

He again admonished the public to respect the sirens by give way for the fire engines to respond to fire and other rescue needs.
