Another ambulance service vehicle comes under armed robbery attack. This Time it is in the Northern Region

Armed robbers have laid ambush and raided an ambulance service vehicle near Sunsung, a community near Yendi.

The ambulance was returning from Chereponi in the North East Region to Tamale on Wednesday March 24, 2021 when the incident happened.

Coordinator for the National Ambulance Service in the Northern Region Dr. Banabas Gandah, who confirmed the incident to Diamond News said, the incident happened at about 8:00 pm on Wednesday night.

He added that, the ambulance was returning to Tamale after they had transported a patient who was discharged from the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

The Northern Regional Ambulance Coordinator also opined that, three ambulance service staff were onboard the ambulance and the relative of the patient who was transported to Chereponi.

Dr. Banabas revealed that, upon reaching the Sunsung community, the ambulance driver realized the gunmen had blocked potions of the road and the gunmen came out of the bush and surrounded the ambulance with their guns.

He indicated that, the gunmen took away all the possessions including the gotta belonging to the ambulance service, money meant to refuel the ambulance, a tablet belonging to the relative of the patient.

He stated that victims who had some beatings were asked to report at the hospital on Thursday for medical checkup.

Dr. Banabas indicated that a report has been lodged at the Yendi police station and their statements have been taken by the police to aid in investigations.

It would be recalled that an ambulance service vehicle carrying a pregnant patient somewhere in the Eastern Region about 2 months ago, came under attack and the driver was shot dead and the nurse and pregnant patient were harassed and their phones and monies taken away by the robbers.
