Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TaMA) presents 700 dual desks to schools in Tamale

The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TaMA) has presented 700 dual desks to some selected schools in the Tamale Metropolis.

The 700 dual seaters furniture will be distributed to 10 selected schools within the Tamale Metropolis, with each school expected to receive 70 furniture.

At a brief ceremony to present the furniture, the MAYOR of Tamale, Honorable Sule Salifu, thanked the Ministry of Local Government and the Ministry of Finance for supporting the assembly to procure the furniture.

He indicated that the provision of the furniture was part of the assembly’s commitment towards creating a conducive atmosphere for effective teaching and learning in the Metropolis.

Mayor Sule Salifu in his remarks charged the chiefs, opinion leaders, School Management Committees, assembly members and unit committee members in the communities to be interested in the welfare of the furniture to help reduce the financial pressure on the Assembly.

He reaffirmed the assembly commitment to improve the quality of education in the metropolis. “The assembly will continue to do its part in terms of the provision of furniture and other learning materials to our basic schools so that tomorrow our children will become useful to the society and contribute their quota to the development of our communities”.

Honorable. Sule Salifu while highlighting the furniture deficit within the Metropolis, also commended the minister of local government honorable Dan Botwe for including Tamale Metropolitan Assembly on the Social Cohesion (SOCO) project.

He said the assembly will be benefiting a sum of Ghc 4.2 million from the project this year, adding a chunk of the money would be used to procure more furniture for basic schools within the Tamale Metropolis.

Mr. Sule Salifu revealed that the assembly also intends to use a sum of GHc 2.1 million out of the GHc 4.2 million to construct an ultramodern Astroturf Park at the Zogbeli football park to enhance sporting activities in the Metropolis.

Speaking on behalf of the Tamale Metropolitan Education Director Abubakari Issah, who doubles as Presiding Member of the assembly, described the presentation of the furniture as timely intervention since majority of basic schools within the metropolis are without decent sitting furniture.

He said the presentation of the dual desks by the TaMA would go a long way to help improve quality education in the Metropolis.
