A Staffer at the Office of the President Hajia Fathia Abdul-Aziz, secured a resounding victory by defeating the former Member of Parliament(MP) for Savelugu Constituency Honorable Somed Gunu at the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Parliamentary primaries on Saturday.
Hajia Fathia popularly known as ‘Boss Lady’ polled 532 votes while Honorable Somed Gunu, her close competitor, managed to poll 121.
The ‘Boss Lady’ Hajia Fathia extended her wins to areas supposedly the stronghold of the former MP sweeping most of the electoral areas.
The total number of delegates was 661 while 656 cast their ballot with three votes rejected. The election process was smooth without any hitch.
The campaign leading up to the primaries was intense, with both candidates tirelessly traversing the Savelugu constituency, addressing delegates, and outlining their visions and plans for the area.
In her victory speech Hajia Fathia, called on all party faithful to join in the fight to recapture the seat for the NPP.
“I did not win. In fact, it is the NPP that won. I want to pledge that going forward, I am going to work with all party people in the Savelugu Constituency. We don’t have Honorable Somed Gunu’s team, neither do we have Hajia Fathia’s team. Please, let us come together. Let’s us unite to capture power from the NDC”, she pleaded.
Hajia Fathia also extended his appreciation to her campaign team, electoral executives, and party elders for their support.
