Some communities in Tamale and Sanarigu cry for water

Some parts of the Tamale Metropolis and Sagnarigu municipality in the northern region have been hit by an acute water shortage.

Some of the communities include Kalpohini, Jakarayili, Dabokpa and its environs. In the kalpohini community of the Sagnarigu Municipality for instance, residents had to struggle and even fight among themselves over water from a borehole cited by the community Mosque, whiles others have been spending several hours in search of water.

According to some of the residents in kalpohini who spoke to Diamond News, the water scarcity coupled with the current harsh weather had made life unbearable for them. These they added had also crippled commercial activities in the area.

The affected communities say their taps had not been flowing for over three months thereby forcing some of them to resort to polluted water for domestics use.

They claimed all efforts to draw the attention of management of Ghana Water Company had proved futile.

The residents expressing their frustration through Diamond News however are calling for urgent action from the Ghana Water Company.

Meanwhile the public relation officer of the Ghana Water Company in the northern region, Nii Abbey speaking to Diamond News explained that the company had received complained on the water crises in this communities and has since detailed some technicians to resolve the problem.

He said the affected communities were dumping refuse in one of the valve chambers that serves the areas and that had led to the situation, but said efforts were being made to rectify the problem.
