N/R: Commercial drivers to begin sit-down strike on Monday

The Northern Regional Branch of the Coalition of commercial transport operators of Ghana, has directed its members to begin on sit down strike on Monday 6th December, 2021.

The leadership in a press statement and copied to diamondfmonline.com, stated that, the strike would remain in force until all their demands are full meet by the government.

The leadership of the coalition while entreating their members to comply with the directive, also appealed to the general public to bear with the coalition on their demands.

“We entreat all our members and all affiliate of the coalition to fully comply with this directive, we also appeal to the general public to bear with us on this action in other for the government to scrap all taxis on the pump price of petroleum products to ease the burden on Ghanaians”.

It would be recalled that, on November 23, 2021, the leadership of GPRTU directed its members to wear red armbands as a protest signal to alert the government of its intended strike on Monday, November 29, 2021, which was later called off.

They said, the action is to compel the government to reduce the price of a litre of fuel by GHS 1.50.

The price of fuel in the country has increased significantly over the past six months, with many drivers lamenting about the situation.

Most oil marketing companies in Ghana currently sell fuel around GH¢6.80 per litre, a price that is above the African average of less than GH¢6.
