French Ambassador to Ghana visits 330/161kv Adubiliyili Substation

The Ambassador of French to Ghana his Excellence jules Armand Aniambossou, on his working visit to the Northern Region, paid a visit to the 330/161kv ADUBILIYILI SUBSTATION on February 20, 2024, to witness the activities of GRIDCo and explore possible areas of more collaborations. 

The Adubiliyili Substation was part of the 330kV Kumasi-Bolgatanga electricity transmission project aim at increasing a reliable power supply in the Northern part of the country and ensure export of at least 200 megawatts (MW) of electricity to the neighboring countries like Burkina Faso, Benin, Togo, Ivory Coast among others. 

The project was executed in 2019, financed by the French Development Agency (AFD) at a total cost of US$173.9 million, with a grant of €4.8 million from the European Union.

In his remarks the ambassador, his excellency Jules Armand Aniambossouu, indicated that the project is the largest investment the French Government had ever made in Ghana and that has since benefited other African countries.

“This project is the largest the French have made in Ghana today”, he said. 

His Excellency Jules Armand while commending management and staff of the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), for ensuring a reliable power network for the northern part of the country, and other neighboring countries also stated, “this project is also very special as it shows to breed partnership between the two nations to expertise and sharing of knowledge between the countries.” 

He lauded the Government of Ghana and His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffu Addo for ensuring the execution and completion of the project. “We are very glad that through Ghana, we have also provided electricity to our neighbor Burkina Faso, ” he added. 

On his part, the Board Chairman of the Ghana Grid Company GRICo, Mr. Kabral Blay-Amihere in his welcoming remarks thanked the French Government and European Union for crediting the facility to complete the project to stabilize power supply to the Ashanti Region and the northern part of the country.

He indicated that, the Board, Management and staff of Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), remain committed to the core mandate of the GRIDCo to be the backbone of power delivery within the country and beyond. 

The Chief Executive of GRIDCo Mr. Ebenezer Essienyi, in his remarks said, the 330kv Adubiliyili substation is a critical infrastructure that has significantly improve power supply reliability in the northern part of the country and enhance GRIDCo ability to export power to Burkina Faso.

“This strategic partnership with France through AFD and EU has positioned GRIDCo to deliver critical energy projects to improve efficiency and ensure a robust national grid, ” he added.
