Datoyili bus terminal; Musah Superior gifted an NPP executive 800k for no work done, Assemblyman

The assemblyman for the Datoyili electoral area, Abu Haruna, has accused the former Mayor of Tamale, Iddrisu Musah Superior, of misappropriating funds meant for the second phase of the Datoyili bus terminal project.

He said the inability of the assembly to pay the contractor pushed him to leave the site without completing the project.

According to the assemblyman, the former Mayor of Tamale, in 2017 had unilaterally approved about Ghc 800,000 to pay an NPP Northern Regional executive, without him executing any project for the Assembly.

Abu Haruna while speaking on Diamond FM’s political talk show, SIASA SAHA lamented the inability of City authorities to put to use the first phase of the project which was completed in 2014.

“Hon Gundaadow when he was leaving office left Ghc 800,000 for the project but Superior used the money to pay his party Regional executive whom he later had problem with because of his percentage”, he claimed.

Current state of the terminal.

The assemblyman however failed to mention the name of NPP Regional executive, but only emphasized that, “he used his political power to spend the money”.

The Datoyili Bus terminal was initiated by the former Chief Executive for the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly, Abdul Hanan Gundaadow with funding from the World Bank under the Urban Development Grant.

The assembly secured land at Datoyili and constructed the modern bus terminal and other auxiliary facilities for buses that ply the Tamale – Kumasi corridor to operate from.

The facility which cost the assembly nearly GHC 1.9 million was to help decongest the Central Business District, particularly the main bus terminal in the metropolis.

However, the facility has been abandoned ever since its completion for almost 7 years.

The assemblyman also revealed that burglars had broken into the facility and made away with some valuable items including air conditioners, ceiling fans and other items, “and all efforts to draw the attention of the assembly management yielded no results”, he lamented.

“This has happened as a result of the assembly’s failure to make the facility operational”, he stressed.

Diamondfmonline.com made frantic efforts to get a response from the former Mayor but he declined to comment on the allegation level against him.

Musah Superior via telephone indicated that, “I don’t grant interviews to local media most especially Diamond FM”.

“I am not talking to Diamond FM whatever information you have; you can go ahead and publish it, I don’t care”, he added.
