Businesses in Tamale to remain shut down on Saturday, while major clean up exercise is carried out

The Tamale Metropolitan Assembly has directed all market centers, shops and other businesses within the metropolis to remain closed from 6am to 12noon on Saturday, for an upcoming clean up exercise on June 26th, 2021.

Transport operators of all categories are also directed to suspend their operations for the same period.

This according to the Assembly is to enable residents to fully participate in the cleanup exercise, being the second in the series since the coming into office of the Northern Regional Minister.

In a press statement copied to Diamond News, the Public Relations Officer for the Tamale Metro Assembly, Amadu Mustapha said “security personnel will be deployed to monitor the exercise and consequently ensure compliance”.

The statement said the exercise will target households, public places, including lorry stations, market centers and meat shops within the metropolis.

It added that the assembly had met with key stakeholders to take their inputs, aimed at improving the sanitation outlook within the metropolis and to help whip up public interest in the coming months.

The “Operation Clean Northern Region Campaign” was launched on the 21st of May, 2021 by the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Shaani Alhassan Shaibu, as part of measures to curb the sanitation menace in the region.

All Metropolitan, Municipals and District Assemblies within the region were directed to set forth, every last Saturday of the month as a “Sanitation Day” and undertake clean up exercises in their various communities.
