It would be recalled that, the Overlord of Dagbon, N’dan Yaa Naa Abukari II, on Thursday February 9, 2023, enskinned Naa Ibrahim Mahama as Chief of Nyankpala traditional area.

The enskinment follows after the failure of the former regent of Nyankpala to perform the final funeral rites of his late father Nyankpala Lana, Naa Alhaji Abdulai Yakubu, after acting as the regent for three years.

It is reported that since the enskinment of Naa Ibrahim Mahama as Chief of Nyankpala on Thursday February 9, 2023, there has been sporadic shooting within the Nyankpala.

Basic schools in Nyankpala township remain closed following the two shooting incidents. The gunshots started on Thursday, Februay 9 before the situation was brought under control.

However, there was more gunfire in the community on Saturday February 11, 2023, leaving residents worried.

Meanwhile, the newly enskinned chief of Nyankpala, Naa Ibrahim Mahama has warned that his outfit will not condone any miscreant whose action or inaction will disturb the peace in the area.

His warning comes after the recent shooting incidents in the area.

Naa Ibrahim Mahama who is now occupying the Nyankpala Chief Palace after performing some traditional rituals in an interaction with the media on Monday February 13, 2023, also called on, the Tolon District Security Council (DISSEC) and Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to channel their focus on the security situation within the Nyankpala traditional area.

He further indicated, “we have had information that some miscreants are planning to attack us on Friday, and I will not allow this to happen. And if it happens, then the REGSEC and DISEC should have themselves to be blame”.

“Why would people want to disrespect the authority of the King of Dagbon? The REGSEC, Peace Council and the DISSEC should focus on this issue before any unfortunate development”, he continues.

Naa Mahama thus urges persons who flee from the community to return.
