Tamale Mayor calls for increased revenue mobilization to carry out developmental projects

Management of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly(TaMA) has held its Second Ordinary Meeting for the year during which the Metropolitan Chief Executive, Iddrisu Musah Superior called for concerted efforts by all to ensure increased revenue to enable the Assembly complete its developmental projects.

 According to him, the Assembly as at 31st May, 2019 had locally generated an amount of GH¢929,056.75  representing 38.82% of a projected amount of GH¢2,393,100.00  for the year, saying the prospects were good for the attainment of the set target.

He said though the assembly for the past years has made frantic efforts to improve revenue mobilization, it is still incumbent for management of the assembly to do more to meet its projected target.

Addressing the various Assembly members and Metropolitan directors at the Assembly auditorium, the Mayor of Tamale indicated that, the Assembly revenue partners, N –FORTICS has installed Point – of –Sale devices (POS) at the Assembly MIS Unit to monitor collection on the field, adding when the system is fully established, it will go a long way to minimize leakages in revenue mobilization.

 “I wish to report that our revenue partners, N- FORTICS, has started deployment of Point-of-Sales (POS) devices for the revenue mobilization as envisaged, and have installed the software for our MIS Unit to monitor collection in the field. It is our hope that when the system is fully established, leakages in the revenue mobilization will minimize drastically and therefore enhances our revenue fortunes”, the Mayor stated.

The Mayor of Tamale in addressing the meeting also called on various chiefs, religious bodies and various assembly members to continue supporting the Assembly as Management of the Assembly is taking steps to reintroduce the Tamale project.

 “I want to inform you there have been calls for us to resume the Tamale project and I want to use this occasion to call on all of you to give me your maximum cooperation and support when we finally agree to consider the request of the people. I also call on the chiefs within the Metropolis to support the project”, he stated.

The Tamale Project was an initiative of the Mayor to bring sanity to the Metropolis by dealing with minors who roam the streets at night, decongesting the Central Business District (CBD), and sweeping away wee smokers and alleged criminals in the major forest reserves in the metropolis.

The Tamale project was put on hold as a result of challenges between the Mayor and some party executives within the ruling party in the metropolis.
