Take advantage of voluntarism to build your capacities for the job market

Northern Programmes Manager at ActionAid Ghana, Madam Esther Boateng has urged youth to take advantage of voluntarism to build their capacities and gain the needed experience for the job market.

She explained that, volunteering help individuals gain confidence and that apart from helping to build one’s skills, it provides an opportunity to network and to uncover new opportunities in life.

Esther Boateng criticized instances youth expect monetary gains in every service that is rendered, saying money should not be the motivation for rendering voluntary services.

Speaking to Diamond news on the sidelines of a youth policy dialogue in Tamale, Madam Esther Boateng encouraged the youth to take-up internship opportunities to enhance their chances of securing jobs.

The youth policy dialogue was aimed at deepening multi-stakeholder engagement on Ghana’s youth policy, with the anticipation that the final version of the reviewed National youth policy will reflect some of the insights shared during the dialogue.

The youth policy which was on the theme “Improving youth participation in public policy decision-making” was organized by the Youth Empowerment Synergy (YES Ghana) and supported by the commonwealth foundation.
