Northern Ladies Football Club successfully defended their Unity Games trophy on Wednesday after defeating Dahinsheli Ladies 2-0 in the final played at the Kasalgu Complex of the Tamale Utrecht Football Academy.
Goals from Abdulai Mukarama and Yakubu Fadila in the second half ensured victory for Northern Ladies.
The only premiership side in the competition proved too strong for the other participants as they went unbeaten throughout the competition.
This year’s event brought together 12 women teams in the region across all the divisions of the female game.
The first game in the competition between the two finalists saw a 1-1 draw. So when both teams again made it to the final, there was no surprises.
For their prize, Northern Ladies took home a trophy, a football and a set of jerseys. Dahinsheli Ladies also took home a football and a set of jerseys.
Northern Ladies coach Sumani Bashirudeen was adjudged the best coach of the competition whilst Dahinsheli Ladies Neindoo Basira received the best player award beating off competition from Northern Ladies star striker and Black Maidens Captain Abdulai Mukarama. The goal queen accolade went to Abdullai Salamatu of Bagabaga Ladies who scored 10goals.
The Unity Games is a competition among women teams organised by the Northern Region Women Football Association during school holidays with the aim of keeping the players and coaches busy during the holidays.
