N/R: Successes in CLTS must replicated in peace building and conflict prevention within various traditional areas- Salifu Saeed advocates

Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed, wants the support from development partners towards the designs of peace modules that would stimulate competition among the various traditional areas in the region.

He said going forward; allocation of development projects would be tied to conditionality such as traditional areas are experiencing no violent conflicts, but enjoying peace which is a prerequisite for development.

Salifu Saeed said this while unveiling the 4th ODF league table for the northern region in Tamale. According to the regional minister possibilities of rewarding such peace initiatives, lies in an adaptation of concepts such as the Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) which is promoting healthy forms of competitions between the various assemblies in the region.

Mr. Saeed observed that conflict was a major drawback to the ODF campaign saying that places such as Bunkprugu, North Gonja and Nanumba North which had one conflict or the other performed below expectations since the conflicts may have inhibited efforts to getting CLTS to the grassroots.

The ODF league Table is a Government of Ghana and UNICEF initiative under the Regional Environmental Health and Sanitation Unit, with support from partners like USAID-RING, Global affairs of Canada and Global Communities.
