MUKARAMA ABDULAI NOMINATED FOR CAF’S TOP AWARD

Ghana Black Maidens Captain and Northern Ladies striker, Mukarama Abdulai has been nominated for CAF Women’s African player of the year 2018. Mukarama’s nomination comes after an impressive World Cup campaign for Ghana in which she smashed Jane Ayieyam’s goal scoring record of six goals at that level over two tournaments by scoring seven in four games even though Ghana failed to make it past the quarter finals

Also getting nominated are Black Queens duo of Elizabeth Addo and Portia Boakye who have been impressive for their club sides and the Ghanaian senior women team

Other nominees for the various categories of the CAF Awards 2018 have been finalized

Thirty-four (34) men players and 15 women players have been nominated for the flagship awards; Men’ Player of the Year and Women’s Player of the Year based on the performance of the players during the year under review. The only Ghanaian men player nominated is Thomas Partey

A statement on the CAF media portal on Friday morning said “The winners for the African Player of the Year and Women’s Player of the Year will be decided by the following:”

  1. CAF Technical & Development Committee
  2. Media Experts, Legends, Coaches of the quarter-finalists of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup
  3. Coaches and Captains of the national teams of the 54 Member Associations.

“Other categories namely Youth Player of the Year, Men’s Coach of the Year, Women’s Coach of the Year, Men’s National Team of the Year and Women’s National Team of the Year will be elected by:”

  1. CAF Technical & Development Committee
  2. Media Experts, Legends, Coaches of the quarter-finalists of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup

Even though Mukarama Abdulai’s nomination has come as a surprise to many, it still remains to be seen what her chances are as she has only burst into the scene with her debut World Cup appearance.

The Awards Gala, to honour footballers and officials who distinguished themselves during the year under review, will be held on Tuesday, 8 January 2019 in Dakar, Senegal.
