Ghanaians should not expect any reduction in prices of goods since the Vice President did not announce reduction in port charges at the town hall meeting

Executive Secretary of the Ghana Importers and Exporter association Asaki Sampson has said Ghanaians should not expect any reduction in prices of goods since the Vice President did not announce reduction in port charges at the town hall meeting as expected by many Ghanaians.

He explained that, what the Vice President Dr. Bawumia did was to propose the reduction of institutional charges at the port which is yet to go through parliamentary approval and that cannot warrant an instant reduction in prices of goods.

Speaking to Diamond News in an interview, post the town hall meeting by the Economic Management Team EMT, Asaki Sampson questioned when the processes for the reduction in institutional charges will begin?

He expressed worry that, the policy might intentionally be delayed and push into 2020 in order for it to become a political campaign tool.

The Executive Secretary of the Ghana Importers and Exporter association Asaki Sampson however said government intentions for the business community was impressive, but more needed to be done in the area of institutional charges at the port.

Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia addressed Ghanaians on the state of the economy at an Economic Management Team town hall meeting which was on the theme: “Our progress, our status, our future”.
