With the funeral of late President Jerry John Rawlings underway in the national capital, Accra, one person who has been courting controversy and causing a stir is 52 year old Madam Abigail Mawutor Rawlings, who claims she is a daughter of the late president and NDC founder.
Madam Mawutor, whose story has become topical in the last few days leading to the funeral, reportedly granted public interviews alleging to have been fathered by Mr. Rawlings years ago when he was a fresher at the military academy training to become an air force pilot.
On Tuesday morning at the ground of the AICC where dignitaries had been pouring in to pay their last respect to the fallen hero who also gave birth to the fourth republic, madam Mawutor again pitched camp and was in her element again drawing attention to herself.
This time, she was physically restrained by security personnel from accessing the foyer of the AICC where Mr. Rawlings lays in state.
The restrains however did not stop her from shouting on top of her voice amidst dramatizing her pain all in an attempt to get closure. It took some elders around to intervene for her to resume her seat with an occasional outburst in a viral video.
Ms. Mawutor Who claimed to have been born by a Togolese mother who is also late now, said all she wanted to prove is the late president was her father and she was ever ready to subject herself to DNA test as a Rawlings seed.
Nana Konadu Agyaemang-Rawlings is the only known spouse of the former leader and on record the pair had four children, Zanetor, Yaa Asantewaa, Amina and Kimathi and through the funeral these have been holding together.
Many netizans who had followed Madam Mawutor Rawlings’s story were tempted to believe her side of the story. For them, there was some semblance in facial outlook and skin color.
But some others argued that those two alone were not enough. “There are many of her kinds in all coastal Ghana from Keta (JJ’s hometown) through Accra, Cape coast to Takoradi and Axim, because some of the Europeans fathered some of our people, even Mr. Rawlings”
“It’s no longer funny; I will never go and look for a father who never accepted me, never.” Was another comment raised by another netizen.
