allow only riders with crash helmets into your premises-prof Teye

The Vice chancellor of the University for Development Studies, Prof Gabriel Ayum Teye is advised institutions operating within the region, to toughen stands that would allow only motor riders with crash helmets into their premises.

He advised that just as the UDS had instituted a policy that put riders without crash helmets at a disadvantage when accessing the school, it was necessary for other institutions particularly a health institution like the Tamale teaching hospital to do same as a way of encouraging many users of motor bikes to wear crash helmet and save lives during road crashes.

Prof Teye said this during a session between the UDS and players in the insurance industry in Tamale.

Motorbikes, serve as the commonest means of transportation in the northern part of Ghana, however reluctance of the part or riders to use helmets has been a major cause for concern for road safety officials and other advocates.

Already public offices such as the Regional Administration, the Ghana Health Service, the VRA club house and a few NGOs have made it mandatory for riders and their pillions to wear crash helmets, before they are allowed entry.
