• Traders at Tamale market express contrary views on prices of food items although Governments says prices had been decreased

Some traders in the Tamale Metropolis have expressed surprised by the statement made by the current government to suggest that, price of food stuffs in the county have reduced drastically.

According to the traders, the price of maize had rather shot up as compared to 2017 around the same period. The traders believe that the price of maize may rise again in subsequent weeks as the demand keeps rising in the Region. Currently a bag of maize sells at 120 Ghana cedis.

The President, Nana Akuffo Addo at the media encounter held on Wednesday 19th December 2018, stated that the country hasn’t imported maize under his turner due to food security measures put in place by his team.

The President added that prices of food stuffs in the country have also go down, mentioning that there is abundant foodstuff in the country which enabled the country to export some of these.

However traders at the Aboabo Market in Tamale, speaking to Diamond News explored a different opinion about the president statement, saying price of other food stuffs such as rice, millet groundnut among others would go up in coming weeks.

Some of the traders attribute their inability to sell their commodities to the current economic difficulties in the country.
