Savelugu: Yoo Naa organize Hepatitis B screening and vaccination exercise
The Paramount Chief of the Savelugu traditional area, Naa Abdulai Yakubu Andani in collaboration with the AL-SHIFAA HOSPITAL of the Savelugu Municipality, has organized a weeklong Hepatitis B screening and vaccination exercise for the people of Savelugu.
The program was held at the forecourt of the Yoo Naa’s palace and aimed at increasing awareness of the disease within the municipality.
This is the third time the chief and his partners are organizing such medical exercise for his people, with the initial health screening taking place somewhere in 2020, where former school mates of the chief brought in several medical doctors to examine the people of Savelugu.
Speaking to diamondfmonline.com on the sideline of the exercise, Yoo Naa Abdulai Andani, while describing Hepatitis B disease as a silent killer, said majority of his people do not know their status on the disease, hence the exercise.
Naa Abdulai Andani added, “health is essential for the progress of every country; therefore it is important for everybody to take their health seriously”.
“Don’t wait till the sickness consumes your body before you will seek medical attention. Try and do regular medical checkups most especially Hepatitis B. It can be treated at an early stage but if you allow it to consume the entire body this may become difficult to fight”, he advised.
He thus urged the people within the Savelugu Municipality to take advantage of the ongoing exercise to enable them know their health status most especially hepatitis B.
On his part, the medical director of the AL-SHFAA HOSPITAL, Dr Bright Atta Ashanti, who led a team of health practitioners for the exercise, said the exercise intended to screened and vaccinate over 5000 people.
He thanked the chief whose support helped them to engage in the mass testing exercise.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to diamondfmonline.com after going through the screening process expressed gratitude to the chief and the management of Al-shifaa hospital for coming up with such an initiative to improve the health of the people.
