The Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central Kennedy Agyapong, has threatened to shut down the campaign of Dr Mahamadu Bawumia if his campaign team continue to play tribal politics against him ahead of the party flagbearer elections.
“I am fed-up of their bluff and within four months, I will shut Bawumia’s campaign down right there. I will shut it. If they continue to play tribal politics against me, I will shut it, because ever since they’ve started their dirty campaign, they have been doing it, and this will not help the party”, he said.
The MP who doubles as the Chairman of the Interior and Defense Committee of Parliament, made these comments in Bolga within the week, after Chairman Samba and North East Regional Chairmen of NPP allegedly denied him from meeting their constituency executives.
According to him, during his tour in the Northern Region, Chairman Samba and North East Regional Chairman of NPP, had asked the constituency Chairmen of NPP not to meet him.
“It looks as if NPP, we don’t learn. Because something had happed when we went to the Northern Region. Chairman Samba asked the constituency chairman not to meet me. North East Regional chairman also did same. In Northern Region, the regional executives failed to meet me. In North East, the regional executives also failed to meet me. But I am assuring you, I will pay them back!!”, he stressed.
“Dr Bawumia and his chairmen are destroying his campaign. Because Bawumia cannot win the elections without me. Mark my words. And, I can’t win the elections without him; that is why we need unity within the party. But if somebody come to your place and you call the constituency executives not to meet me, this is not right. Now, we have five regions in the north, but I assure you, your number is 31,800. We have three regions: Western, Western North and Central Region, and the number is 35,000. So, if you want to play tribal politics, I will also play tribal. Then, what will happen? We will go to opposition. But we don’t need that. If there is a fair elections and Dr Bawumia wins, I am going to fully support him. But if there is no fair election, I have a radio station, I have TV station, and you know what I am capable of”, he stated.
“Samba and that chairman, let me tell you something, when they give them contract, they go and sell it. I am telling you, Samba and that North East Regional chairman, they gave them a contract of Gh¢163 million and this 163 million, they sold it to Aliu Seidu. If they are supporting the Vice President, I don’t have a problem. But if they play games with me, all of them will be in trouble”, he threatened.
The Assin Central law maker while commending the Upper East Regional NPP chairman for allowing him to engage with his executives, also alleged that, “during the NPP regional delegates conference I was in America. Farouck came to visit me and said I have to support these names. I didn’t know them but I know Samba all right. So, I gave him Gh¢100,000”.
“Samba sent me a message thanking me and said he has received Gh¢ 40,000 from Farouck. This same man now prevents me from entering his region. “So, people who are close to vice president should inform him, that I can spoil his campaign easily base on what his people are doing. If he takes them out there to unleashed, I am more than a lion”, he warns.
Meanwhile, the Northern Regional chairman of NPP, Mohammed Bantima Samba, in an interview on Diamond 93.7 FM on Wednesday November 30, 2022, has since denied the allegations, saying he wasn’t informed when the Assin Central MP Honorable Kennedy Agyapong was visiting the region hence, the decision to prevent the executives from meeting him”.
“I have never been informed about his visit. I don’t blame him because he has never campaign across the country hence, he does not understand the party structures. So, he should stop lying”, he said.
He also denied receiving Gh¢ 40,000 from Farouck as support from Kennedy Ayapong.
“He is a big liar! I have never taken any money from him, and I have never taken a Gh¢ 163million contract from him”, he said.
Meanwhile, diamondfmonline.com had intercepted an audio from the Yendi Member of Parliament Alhaji Farouck Aliu Mahama saying he has never taken a Gh¢ 100,000 from Hon, Kennedy Agyapong to be given to Chairman Samba.
“It was he Kennedy Agyapong, who asked me how much should be given to Chairman Samba. I told him any amount, and so he gave me a Gh¢ 40,000 and I gave to Chairman Samba”, he narrates.
