Gukpe-naa assures VRA/NEDCo support from traditional authorities to enable them work safely.

The paramount chief of Gulkpegu Traditional Area, Naa Alhaji Alhassan Abdulai, has assured management of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) of efforts being made by the traditional authorities together with the Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to finding amicable and lasting solutions to the current developments the power company finds itself in.

The chief gave the assurance when he paid an assessment visit of the offices of VRA/NEDCo in Tamale to ascertain the impact of the vandalism by some youth in the Metropolis over the last weekend.

The Gukpenaa’s entourage included the Choggu Naa, Tampe Kukuo Naa, and other traditional elders within the Gulkpegu traditional area.

Operations of the power distribution company has been grounded for some days now after some youth of Tamale last Saturday vandalized the VRA/NEDCo Northern Regional Office alongside attacks on the Lamashegu Divisional Police Command.

However, Gulkpe Naa during his interactions with the management of VRA/NEDCo expressed his unhappiness about the current happenings in the metropolis, and condemned the actions of the youth.

The chief speaking through his secretary said since the confrontation between the youth the power company, it has cause him a lot of discomfort hence the resolve to work together with the REGSEC to educate the youth on the need to ensure a lasting peace in the Metropolis.

 “I am here to ascertain the damages caused by the irate demonstrators and to sympathize with you because such a thing cannot happen under my watch and I will not sit aloof so I intend to find solution to it,” he stated.   

On their part, management of VRA/NEDCo led by Maxwell Kotoka, who is Corporate Communication and Customer Service Manager, thanked the chief for his intervention and called on him to ensure total security for their workers when the resume their routine in the coming days.
