Five members of the secessionist movement, remanded after declaring independence as “Western Togoland”

Five members of the secessionist movement, Homeland Study
Group Foundation (HSGF) which recently declared an independent state of Western
Togoland, have been remanded on treason charges after being arraigned at the Ho
District court on Wednesday, 20 November 2019.
They include Peter Godfriend Edem, Mkpe Tornyi Kudjo, Kofi Agbeko, Agbenyega
Akudzia and Ibrahim Tofa. They are to reappear in court on 4 December 2019.
The group’s independence declaration was made by its 85-year-old leader,
Charles Kudzordzi, also known as Papavi Hogbedetor, at a public gathering of
its adherents at the premises of the former Unity Rural Bank which is a few
metres away from the Ho Police Training school.
The group is said to have its own flag, currency and jerseys for its national team. Already it has laid claim to the Akosombo and other national assets.
Meanwhile, leader of the secessionist, , Charles Komi
Kudzordzi, aka Papavi Kudzordzi, is said to be on the run as security agents
went after him following his declaration of independence of Western Togoland.
The 80 plus year old Papavi Kudzordzi who is technically on bail after he was
arrested earlier, alongside other members of his political grouping, the
Homeland Study Group, Papavi made an appearance before a judge before being
granted bail, subsequently, The Attorney General in July 2019 withdrew all
charges brought against the members of Homeland Study Group Foundation.
Government in a statement this week, signed by the
Information minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah asked Ghanaians “to disregard the
claims by the group; stating further that state security agencies are taking
the necessary measures to ensure that persons involved with the illegal act are
dealt with in accordance with the law.
“Ghana government has given an assurance that it has not ceded any part of its
territory to anybody, person or a group of persons,” the statement added.
