Frontier Nurses, a group of Nurses of the Savelugu Municipal Hospital in the Northern Region, as part of its efforts towards ensuring a proper healthcare service and safer environment, held a medical outreach and cleanup exercise within the Savelugu Municipality.

Members of the Frontier Nurses and some staff of the hospital, were among the several residents who took part in both exercises.

The cleanup exercise organized on Friday May 2, 2025, covered two communities, including Nayili fong and Kabong-Tooni. The team desilted the choked gutters and surroundings of these communities.

The health screening exercise also held on Wednesday April 30, 2025, sought to provide safe and proper healthcare services to the aged and other vulnerable groups with much focus on women and children in the Municipality.

During the exercise, those found needing immediate medical attention were referred to the Savelugu Municipal Hospital.

According to statistics given by the leader of the Frontier Nurses, Ms Zainab Alhassan, and her team attended to a total of 285 people during the exercise. “We decided to have this health screening because turnout to the hospital has become very low, so we are bringing our services to the doorstep of the people to encourage them to patronize it.”

“The number of people we attended to, during the exercise, on the average at the hospital, we attend to half of that in a day. So it tells us that when you bring the health services to the convenience of the people, they are very willing to have their health checked”, she added.

Ms Zainab indicated that the beneficiaries were diagnosed and treated for breast cancer, blood pressure, diabetes, malaria, HIV tests, BMI checks, ENT services, among others.

She thus calls on benevolent institutions, religious groups, and traditional authorities within the Savelugu to support the initiative to enable Frontier Nurses extend the gesture to other parts of the Municipality.

Ms Zainab acknowledged the role of their partners, including the Paramount Chief of Savelugu traditional area, Naa Abdulai Yakubu Andani, the Member of Parliament of the area Hajia Fathiya Abdul Aziz, the Municipal Chief Executive(MCE) of the area among others.

Speaking on behalf of the management of the Savelugu hospital, Mr. Mohammed Awal Ibrahim, Director of Nurses of the facility, commended Frontier Nurses for taking such steps to improve healthcare services in the area.
