Tamale: 30 female teachers receive training in ICT

Thirty female teachers who successfully went through a two-week intensive Information and Communications Technology (ICT) training programme have passed out from the Sagnarigu ICT centre in the Northern Region.

The beneficiary teachers were drawn from North East, Savanna and Northern Region The two weeks training provided the teachers with key ICT abilities, to enhance their teaching on ICT. 

The Programm was organised by the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) in partnership with the Norwegian Agency for Development (NORAD), the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), HP, and Cisco to bridge the gap between urban and the rural communities. 

The training programme is also gearing towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5 which seeks to address gender equality and empower women through digital skills development.

At the closing ceremony on Wednesday May 7, 2025, the beneficiary teachers received a certificate, and a laptop from GIFEC installed with educational software among others. 

Speaking on behalf of the acting chief executive, the director of operations Alhaji Yahaya Zakaria Osman commended the beneficiaries for taking part in the training. 

He encouraged the beneficiaries to impact the requisite knowledge and skills they have acquired on their students and the communities and be ambassadors of ICT at their various localities. 

On his part, the acting Deputy Administrator, Hon. Mohammed Abdul Aziz, thanked ITU for fully funding the programme and reaffirmed GIFEC’s commitment to scaling up digital inclusion effort in the country. 

The beneficiaries’ teachers, while sharing their experiences, also thanked GIFEC and its partners for coming out with such an initiative to boost their knowledge on ICT.
