The Concerned Youth Groups of the NPP in the Northern Region have accused regional executives of the party of manipulating the list of shortlisted MMDCEs aspirants before sending the list to the President.
The group alleged that the regional executives led by Chairman Samba have replaced majority of MMDCEs applicants’ names which were selected by the region’s vetting committee with their preferred candidates.
“We are astonished that despite the effective and orderly manner with which the vetting committee did it work, the northern regional executives still went ahead to form a cabal to manipulate the process in order to deceive the president and the vice president to give MMDCE’S positions to people they have utmost control over” the group alleged.
The Concerned Youth Groups claimed the regional executives “presented signatories of youth groups to the presidency to create the notion that the said youth groups are agitating against the president’s likely selection of some hardworking party persons who are likely to be nominated for the position of Metropolitan Chief Executive officer for Tamale”.
At a press conference in Tamale, Secretary of the Concerned Youth Groups, Seidu Mubarik who addressed the press said signatories of youth groups were taken when the Regional Youth Organizer presented sugar to some youth groups within Tamale Metro during this year’s Ramadan and that has nothing to do with supporting or not supporting any aspirant.
The Concerned Youth Groups also alleged that the Northern Regional Executives “have accomplices in the Flagstaff house who aided them to replace names selected by the vetting committee with names of their preferred candidates”.
“We are sending a strong warning to their accomplice to wash his hands of the Northern Region’s MMDCE’S positions and concentrate on their core mandate at the presidency. We want the president to select competent party faithful to occupy the MMDCE’S positions in the region, especially Tamale Metro” the group also emphasized.
The Concerned Youth Groups of the NPP also revealed that some attempts have been made by the Northern Regional Executives to influence some assembly members to reject the president’s appointed MMDCE’S if they happen not to be their preferred candidates.
