NATIONAL ELECTIONS DIRECTOR OF NPP TOURS REGISTRATION CENTERS

The national director of research and elections, of the
ruling New Patriotic Party NPP, Evans Nimako,
on Saturday toured some centers of the ongoing limited registration
exercise, to monitor the exercise being undertaken by the Electoral
Commission.
The exercise is meant to register Ghanaians who had just turned 18 years and
also those who have not registered for varied reasons, all in preparation
towards the 2020 general elections.
The national director of election’s visit took him to both Tamale Central and
South Metro registration centers in the Tamale Metropolis and Sagnarigu Municipal.
Evans nimako after being satisfied with the process praised the EC and the
state security for ensuring smooth and cordial environment.
However, the national director of elections of Npp in an interaction with the
media stated that, his monitoring of the exercise at the various centers across
the country has revealed that a lot of minors have been captured on to the
electoral register
“Several minors were seen in the long cue at the various centers waiting to get their names on to the register and within the law is not the right and so we advise as we move on” he stated
Evans Nimako speaking to Diamond News stated that, leadership of the ruling NPP has asked its agents at the various limited registration centers across the country to challenge those within the law who are not qualified to be registered by the EC officials
He said the decision by the leadership of the ruling Npp is very necessary as CE doesn’t have the capacity to object or challenge those people, saying the leadership of NPP will challenge it after the review process by the EC
“And so I will advise our party people to facilitate the
registration of those who are at the right age and those who are minors should be
challenged, we urge parents to desist from that, they should advice their
children not to get their names on to the electoral register as they are
endangering their feature, this is not a political interest but rather their
owned interest”, he added.
The national director of research and elections, said his party will continue to monitor the exercise and ensure only those qualified are registered to vote come next year.
The first vice chairperson, Madam Rita Asobayire who monitored the exercise at Savanna Region, on her part urged the two major political parties to desist from encouraging minors to get their names on to the electoral register.
