MTN Ghana undertake “our baby hamper donations” which target newly born babies and mothers on Christmas Day
MTN Ghana has put smiles on faces of some mothers and babies born on Christmas Day by distributing assorted hampers to them in selected hospitals and health facilities across the country.
Dubbed “Our Baby Hamper donation,” which was held on Boxing Day (December 26), the activity targets some 3000 mothers and babies across Ghana.
On such occasion, each mother and baby recieved hampers containing essential baby items including toiletries, diapers, towels and toys.
According to the Regional Branches Manager of MTN, Northern, Kwami Aseye Akude, the company always chose Christmas, to share the love of the season with others.
Mr. Akude who had led some staff of MTN to make the donation to babies and mothers at the Tamale Teaching Hospital’s Labour ward on Boxing Day maintained, “the gesture is a show of love and joy during Christmas.”
“This has become an annual activity and since 2011, that is 13 years now, MTN has been consistent in presenting Christmas hampers to babies born in 30 Regional and district hospitals across all 16 regions of the country,” he stated.
Mr. Akude said in Northern Ghana, 10 selected hospitals and health facilities such as TTH, Salaga, Damongo, Yendi, Bolgatanga, Jirapa, Navrongo and Wa Regional hospital, concurrently, benefitted from the donation which targets up to 3000 mothers and their babies, across the country.
The Regional Manager of MTN said as the leading Telecomunications service provider in Ghana, they were not only giving back to society, but to also broaden the smiles of babies and new mothers during the Yuletide period.
Speaking on behalf of the Management of The Tamale Teaching Hospital, the Midwife incharge at the TTH’s Labour Ward, Madam Fauzia Adam, commended MTN Ghana for the kind gesture it exhibits yearly through donations to the ward.
“Over the years, you have been putting bigger smiles on the faces or babies and mothers and by extension their families and the hospital, because it is an acknowledgement and appreciation of our efforts, which we do together with your support”
Madam Fauzia said for a company like MTN which shows up even before the hospital knocks on its doors, it is something worth emulating by others.
“MTN has us at heart, hence shows up during moments like this, especially when others are celebrating the festivities at home, but they (MTN) show up in hospitals to share the joy of the season with babies, mothers and staff at the labour ward,” she remarked.
In all 23 babies, (21 males and two females) were successfully delivered at the TTH on Christmas Day. They include twins who were all presented with Christmas hampers.
