Personnel of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces have embarked on a route march in the Northern Region which saw them going through the Tamale metropolis, Savelugu and the Tolon traditional area.
The march, code named “Operation Show of Force”, is part of measures and actions embarked upon by the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to ensure the smooth implementation of the road map for peace in Dagbon.
The march is, therefore, a show of preparedness by the security agencies before, during and after the final funeral rites for both Ya-Na Mahamadu Abdulai and Ya- Na Yakubu Andani II, at the old Gbewaa Palace in Yendi and the enskinement of a new Ya-Na to steer the affairs of the Dagbon Kingdom.
Addressing the media before the exercise, the public relations officer of the Northern Regional Police Command, DSP Yussif Tanko assured that measures had been put in place to ensure total peace before, during and after the two funerals.
He has entreated the people of Dagbon to co-operate with the security agencies to ensure a successful implementation of the roadmap.
Meanwhile, the Northern Regional Minister Salifu Sa-eed has charged the security personnel to maintain their enthusiasm ahead of the two funerals. He also commended the chiefs and people of the area for their cooperation so far. Salifu Saeed however warned that persons that would hide under the cover of darkness to plot any mayhem will be dealt with decisively.
“No individual or group will take the laws into his or her own hands. The security is ready and all forces will be marshaled to deal with whoever would want to thwart the effective and smooth implementation of the roadmap that would lead to total peace in Dagbon,” Salifu Saeed stated.
The final funeral rites of Ya-Na Mahamadu Abdulai will be held from December 14 to December 28, 2018, while that of Ya Na Andani II, would be held from January 4 to 19, 2019.
