Northern Regional Muslim Council (NRMC) holds third Ramadan summit

The Northern Regional Muslim Council over the week-end held the 2025 Ramadan summit in Tamale to create a platform for Muslim leaders to educate Muslims on Ramadan and what is expected of them during the holy month.
The event was attended by Imams from the various sects, traditional leaders, security, student bodies among others.
This year’s event is the third edition of the Ramadan submit organized by the Northern Regional Muslim Council (NRMC) to ensure total sanity during the fasting period. The summit was initiated last two years by the council aimed at admonishing scholars on how to go by their sermons during the period.
Muslims in the country are preparing towards this year’s fasting period which is expected to begin on 1st or 2nd of March next month.
In his welcoming remarks, Chairman of the Northern Regional Muslim Council, Shiekh Issah Alhassan Abubakari stated, “today’s event is yet another testament of our collective resolve to come together as one people of common destiny, identify our challenges and brainstorm the way forward on a final proffer realistic solutions without waiting to be reminded or admonished by third party as to what to do”.
He thus reminded businessmen and women within the region to be measured in the margin of profit they intended to make during fasting period. “Why can’t we for ones show love and sympathy for one another and seek the blessings of Allah in the month by being moderate in the profit margins on these Ramadan essential commodities?”, he queries.
He revealed that “the leadership of the council is liaising with other businessmen in Accra to see how best they could to break the monopoly of businessmen when it comes to these essential Ramadan items. If we succeed and negotiations conclude, an announcement will be made and the general public will be informed as to where to get these commodities at affordable prices,” he added.
On his part, Sheikh Mujeeb Ibrahim, who spoke against indiscipline amongst the youth, urged the youth to stick to the teaching of Islam to enable them to live upright.
He also encourage the youth to live exemplary lives by obeying the rules and regulations of the country to help them become better citizens.
Speaking on health benefits during Ramadan, Dr Adam Abass, a retired medical practitioner, stated some health benefits during fasting , including improved blood sugar control, weight loss, and improved heart health.
The Tamale Metropolitan Divisional Police Commander ACP Kusmah Awei, in his solidarity message called on residents in Tamale to support the police to fight and reduce crime within the Metropolis.
He said the latest trade of under age children involved in crime is alarming, hence there’s the need for a serious collaboration to fight the canker.
“We are police officers, and we are here to serve the people of this Metropolis. But what we are now observing is that children between 12 to 15 years now engage in criminal activities, and any time we arrest those kids sometimes their parents refused to show up and it is not easy to keep them in custody. So, we need stakeholders support because we can’t fight it alone”.
