The kingmakers of Dagbon in the Northern Region have nominated Yo Na Abukari Mahama to be installed as the new Overlord of Dagbon after years of chieftaincy dispute resulting in the kingship being vacant.
This was revealed by the Chairman of the Andani Youth Association, Alhaji Abdulai Anas, on Friday, 18 January 2019, shortly after the exercise to nominate the new Ya Na.
Mr Anas told Diamond News that the symbol of authority of the Dagbon State has been handed to the Yo Na and he will be taken to the Katini (Sacred House) subsequently, to begin the rituals pertaining to his enskinment.
“Just about some minutes , the straw of authority signifying the enstoolment of the throne has been given to the Yo Na signifying that Yo Na Abukari Mahama has been enthroned as Na Bukari II,” Mr Anas said.
He stressed that: “We can say without any iota of doubt that the Yo Na Abukari Mahama has been given the power to become the next Ya Na of Dagbon”.
He added that the Yo Na will be taken through the processes of installation Friday evening.
